Six-year-old Marla Olmstead, of Binghamton, New York, began painting before her second birthday. She quickly moved from painting pieces of paper to large expansive canvases, and has earned recognition from art galleries and private art collectors for her vibrant acrylic paintings.
Olmstead’s first painting sold for $250 when she was 2 years old. The price tags for her paintings now reach well into the tens of thousands of dollars and have stretched even to $25,000, according to her mother. This painting is called “Burning Blue Ball.”
Olmstead has exhibited her artwork in Los Angeles, California, at Sotheby’s in Beverly Hills, California, and in Germany, among other locations. Despite the youngster’s status in the art world, her mother, Laura Olmstead, said that painting is “merely a pastime” for Marla.
This painting, entitled “Blue,” is one of Laura Olmstead’s favorites. Her daughter painted it when she was 4 years old. To learn more about Olmstead, click here
Twenty-one-year-old Alexandra Nechita began painting when she was 2. Her cubist, abstract style quickly caught the eye of critics who nicknamed her “The Petite Picasso.”
Today, Nechita’s work is internationally acclaimed, and she has been compared to art legends such as Paul Klee, Salvador Dali, Wassily Kandinsky and Pablo Picasso. This is a section of a painting entitled “Forty Minutes.” Picture courtesy Allucra Fine Arts.
Nechita is in her fourth year studying in the art program at the University of California at Los Angeles. This is a section of a painting called “Irreplaceable II.”
In November 1999, the United Nations Arts and Humanities program, Global Art 2000, named Nechita an “Ambassador for Peace and Goodwill.” As part of the program, she led a team of artists and leaders from more than 100 nations. This is a section of a painting called “Forbidden Fruit.” To learn more about Nechita, click here.
